In the Drama Club, kids take a journey into their own imaginations. One day, they may play a ferocious beast, intent on destroying the village; in the next class, they may turn into a talking raven that must carry the sun in his talons to the other side of the world. All children are natural actors and this series of after-school workshops allows kids to have fun expressing their creativity in a safe, nurturing environment. Shy children are especially welcome.

Every class is custom-designed to meet the needs of the particular children who enroll, so our teachers are not simply showing up to class with a pre-determined list of activities. Rather, after meeting with the group and listening to the children for the first session, the teacher thoughtfully comes up with a preliminary lesson plan suited for that group. It may include:

  • rehearsing a short play, or lots of short plays
  • learning reader’s theatre
  • creating a puppet show
  • writing original scripts
  • creating movement pieces based on family stories
  • forming an imaginary world full of fantasy creatures
  • re-enacting favorite stories in original ways and much more!

We offer the Drama Club at least once a year at each school. Just like participating in sports, or playing a musical instrument, becoming an actor takes practice. Returning students learn new skills and become better actors each year and new students are welcome to join in at any time.

Offering the Drama Club at your school is easy! We handle the flyers, rosters, building use, insurance, registrations, and teach the class. All we need from the school is the best season and day of the week to offer drama. Inviting The Young Players to your school ensures that your children receive not only a great education in drama, but a truly uplifting theatre experience!
