| A
Note to Parents of the Players: |
| |
In
addition to having a great deal of fun, we will
be learning about the focus and discipline required
of actors. It is our intention to be of maximum
benefit to each student, therefore, we are very
protective of the workshop environment. We have
clear and consistent class rules, and will give
a courtesy call to a parent if there are persistent
behavior problems. If a student continues to be
disruptive, he/she may be excused without refund
for the remainder of the workshops.
Each school receives a roster of the students
attending drama, and usually, your child's teacher
will know to send him/her to drama. But please
remind your child each time he/she has theatre
after-school. Most schools have excellent procedures
for escorting/directing kids where to go. And
most kids will have so much fun in this class
that they will look forward to drama, and have
little trouble remembering. However, if your child
is very young, or has trouble remembering, please
take extra precautions such as sending an e-mail
to his/her teacher as a reminder, or putting a
reminder note in the child's lunch. |

The Young
Players Acting Workshops focus on giving children
an immediate positive experience of drama,
not on rehearsing a scripted play. This removes
any "performance anxiety," and allows the
child greater freedom of expression. All workshops
do include a "performance in progress" or
an "interactive performance," where the Young
Players will share what they've learned with
you! Audience participation is a key element,
so you are warmly encouraged to attend!

Class Location:
Because most schools are tight on space, and
many classes do not fill until the last minute,
in most cases, we are not allocated an actual
space until the day of the workshop. If it
is not indicated on the flyer, please call
the school for room location.
|

Registration
Deadline: For the safety of the kids, we need
to have a final roster to submit to the school
the evening before the workshop. For this
reason, we ask that you register your child
at least 24 hours in advance. We DO NOT take
walk-in students, even if there is still room
in the class. Registration forms go home with
the kids six weeks in advance, and then again
a couple of weeks prior to the workshop. We
announce the classes in the school newsletters,
and offer telephone registration, so there
are plenty of opportunities to enroll students
in a timely fashion. In addition to child
safety issues, walk-in registrations are disruptive
to the first class experience-an important
bonding time for the group.
|
-
Another reason
not to wait until the last minute to register:
Our classes are very popular. Some of them
fill within three days of the initial flyer
going home. If you wait to register your child,
and the class is full, they will hear about
how much fun their best friend is having in
drama, and be irritated with you. :)

If your child
will be picked up after Young Players Workshop,
please meet him/her at the room location promptly
at the end of class. For safety reasons, please
be on time to pick up your child. We cannot
leave children unattended, and our instructors
may be required at another school following
your workshop. If you are more than five minutes
late, we will charge a dollar a minute to
stay and wait.

The Young
Players instructor arrives at the school before
school lets out, and receives the kids in
the space. He/she stays until all children
have been picked up, but we do not assume
responsibility for getting your child to class.
